Sun Wireless provides expertise in unlicensed or licensed systems. An unlicensed radio is one that functions in a frequency spectrum that has been approved by the Federal Communications Commission for operation without Federal control. A licensed radio, on the other hand, is one that operates in a frequency spectrum that dictates approval by a Government entity prior to powering up the system.

For those licensed radios that need FCC approval prior to operational status, there is a formal procedure that must be followed. Sun Wireless can assist in this process:

  1. Frequency analysis – All other radios operating in the requested spectrum and within the immediate vicinity of the proposed links must be analyzed with the proposed system. Antenna sizes and polarities, frequencies, antenna heights, transmit powers and bearings must be taken into consideration to minimize or eliminate interference.
  2. Prior Coordination Notice (PCN) – All license holders in the immediate area must be notified as to the proposed system. Normally, they have thirty (30) days to voice any concerns or objections.
  3. Application Preparation and Submission – Once PCN has been completed, the Form 601 needs to be completed and submitted along with the appropriate fee to the FCC for approval. With the submission of the application, one can commence utilization of the system. Once the approved license is received, it is normally valid for ten (10) years.
  4. Schedule K Completion – Although the Commission has granted approval for a license, it does not actually know that a system has been placed into service. To insure that approval is not withdrawn, one must submit a Schedule K so that the FCC knows a connection is in service. Obtaining this data is essential so that accurate Frequency Analyses can be performed in the future.
